"Places"
These songs were written in different places with the Lord. Places of worship and awe, places of intercession, repentance, pain and desperation, and of course intimacy. As you walk in the paths of the Lord you will find yourselves in many different places—Mountains, valleys, death, life, pain, joy. In Isaiah 32 it says, “…my people will live in undisturbed places of rest.” I love that promise!

During a time of intercession, the Lord gave me a picture of a weather vane that had been stuck in one direction for a long time. The weather vane represented people, cities and even churches. Someone prayed, “It’s time for the winds to change.” I was at the piano, and, well, this song is what happened. CLOSE EXPLANATION

The Lord had me go to my church everyday for a week at 5:00 in the morning to be with him. I’m a morning person, but to be at the church worshiping and singing by 5:00 a.m. was a stretch for even me. All week long this song unfolded. Those days are some of the sweetest moments I have spent with the Lord. Genesis 3:8: “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” Zephaniah 3:17: “The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” CLOSE EXPLANATION

I read the book The Prophetic Romance by Fuchsia Pickett. In the book she told the story of Ruth and Boaz. She explained, “That in Eastern culture, to spread a skirt, a covering over someone was a symbolic act offering that person protection. More than that, it involved entering into covenant with a person for the sake of redemption.” Of course, this is a picture of us and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Ruth 3:9: “Who are you?” he (Boaz) asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are my kinsman-redeemer.” Ezekiel 16:8: “Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.” CLOSE EXPLANATION

I love remembering when this song was written. We had staff prayer one morning. It had not rained in months, literally, but it had been forecasted to rain on this day. We were all praying quietly to ourselves and I heard the rain start to fall. I remember looking out the glass door and seeing it. It was such a sign of hope. When prayer was over, I made my way to a piano and without much struggle this song came out. LISTEN - 01 - Adrienne's Vision - EXPLANATION - LYRICS
Coming Soon HIDE
I was in south Florida just a few days after the new year of 2003. I was at what I thought was the end of my time with Jesus for the morning and I had a thought/prayer that I wanted to write down in my notebook. After I wrote the prayer, I sort of saw a picture and so I jotted that down too, and then the vision started to unfold. The more I wrote, the more I saw. It was really cool because I had never gotten a vision like that before. I usually get the whole picture and then write. I remember leaving that time knowing I had been with the Lord in a different way but not truly understanding until later that night at a prayer and worship service. I felt that I was supposed to share it with that group of people. After the service, I realized why I got the vision and why it was so powerful. First, for me, I needed to see a picture of desperation. I needed to know what it looked like to be desperate for the Lord. And secondly, I needed to see that the Lord loves to be sought. Although I already knew this, I now see how desperation plays a huge role in looking for God. I've come to understand that desperation is what unlocks the gate in the vision. And it wasn't until the gate was unlocked that I noticed Jesus was standing there. As I have shared this in other ministry times, it is evident that I am not the only one who needs to see this picture. Hope it encourages you. HIDE

My friend Stacey emailed me with the passage of 2 Kings 6:8-17. Verses 16 and 17 say, "Don't be afraid," said Elisha. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." And Elisha prayed, "Lord open his eyes so he may see." Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha." I need the Lord to open my eyes so that I can see His army. The enemy has used fear over and over again in my life. I have been disobedient to the Lord so many times because of fear -- fear of many things. But they have now been conquered by the perfect love of God (1John 3.) And in Romans 8:35 it says that "we cannot be separated from His love," which means that I can live a fearless life (with the exception of the fear of the Lord - which is completely different). HA HA Devil - can't use fear with me anymore, the Lord is on my side!! Ha Ha!! The Bible doesn't clarify how much full is, but 10,000 seems full to me. And it worked well with the cadence too.
For the completion of this thought, read the explanation to "As Bold As Lions."
Recording Comment: We recorded this live, but my voice doesn't carry well with the style that we did it in. So basically it left that song unusable. But! We were determined and not defeated. Robert stripped all the tracks except for the drums and then rebuilt the entire song in the key of F#m (it was originally in Bm) with Jay's help. Robert added his vocal, which sounds so much better with the aggressive music. I sounded like Minnie Mouse! There is something about not being afraid and a squeaky voice that don't mix. So, hats off to Robert and Jay who made an unusable song usable and better. Quite redemptive.
Actually, the primary reason for redoing this one was that we screwed the song up royally that night! In addition to removing every track except drums, I had to delete a portion of that track and piece the two parts together. Then we re-recorded everything. It was quite funny that night when we botched it! - robert HIDE

LISTEN - 05 - As Bold As Lions - EXPLANATION - LYRICS - CHORDS
Coming Soon HIDE
I wrote this song around the same time as "On My Side." Personally, I think the two work well together. Here is why: If I can get to the place where I know that the Lord has me surrounded and I have no reason to fear, it is at that point that I can be as bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1 says, "The righteous are as bold as a lion." Above I mentioned my disobedience because of fear. The Lord would say do this or do that, use this gift here, use that gift there and I would literally be paralyzed by fear and I wouldn't do what he asked. In verses 18-20 of 2 Kings 6 we see how Elisha was calling on God to blind the enemy and then open their eyes. I want to be that bold and that free from fear that I can call upon the Lord in the middle of a battle and know that he's going to take care of it. Isaiah 61 lists many things that we are anointed to do, that is our obligation to do, and as a body we have fallen short of. Mainly, I believe, because of fear. We have lost brothers and sisters out there who could be found if we would be as bold as lions and embrace the anointing on our lives to preach good news. I love the thought I had toward the end of the song…"teach us to be comfortable in your boldness God."
As for the kids…who else could represent boldness better. My son, Winter, loves to pretend he is a super hero. And when he is in Spiderman mindset, it doesn't matter where we are, (grocery store, library, church, shoe shopping) he is going to be Spiderman and he doesn't care who sees. It is time that the Body of Christ (myself included) gets in the mindset of bold and fearless. HIDE

I can't really say much about this except for where I was when I wrote it. This is one of the first songs that I wrote. It is certainly the oldest song on the CD. It remains one of my faves. There is something powerful about proclaiming to the Lord that you will have no other god's before Him. Granted, it was His idea. I was in a place where the Lord was really cleaning house and changing my thought process. I remember crying every time I sang it for at least two months. To me this is a timeless song. Some songs are for the season and although you know it is blessing others, you've learned and grown. And there are songs that make you think forever.
Musically: After I was finished writing it and had gone through it a couple of times, I remembered thinking, "Did I really write this?" The chord structure and melody line were different than the few other songs I had written. I knew that I had help. And as an encouragement to you other song writers, the more time you spend with God and the more He works on you and the more free you get, the more creative you will be. Creativity comes with freedom in Christ. Until you have freedom, you are just imitating what you've heard. HIDE

LISTEN - 07 - Saul's Armor - EXPLANATION - LYRICS - CHORDS
Coming Soon HIDE
I went away for three days to fast and pray and that is when I got this song. I remember sitting in this small cabin with my keyboard and getting this revelation. The story of David fighting Goliath was in my daily reading for the day. I mean, how many times have I read this story. Anyway, I just started singing "I'm taking off Saul's armor" and something inside me broke. I believe I was delivered from a lot of rejection and comparison that afternoon. My problem at the time was trying to be a worship leader that I am not, trying to write songs that I wasn't designed to write, trying to sing like somebody I am not, wanting to know why I don't dance like my graceful friend, Shelia. Blah blah blah, the Lord says. "I create you with fear and wonder. Stop trying to change it." I finished writing the entire song that afternoon. And after the healing settled in, the Lord asked me to do the humble act of repenting. I had repented to Him, but this repentance was to my church. As a worship leader at that time, I had hindered the Lord from moving in certain ways because I was too busy trying to be something that I wasn't. Fortunately, they were merciful! And l noticed the difference in my leading, but more importantly, I noticed the difference in my worship.
1 Samuel 17:39 says that David could not even move in Saul's armor. Unfortunately, there are many members of the Body of Christ who are dressed in someone else's armor. I pray that with this song you are challenged to be who God created you to be with fear and wonder.
Recording note: I attempted to play and sing a couple of songs live and although the end results weren't too bad, I still felt that they needed to be adjusted. This is one of them. So we decided to completely re-record it. The Lord had placed it on my heart to have my husband, Jonathan, play the acoustic with the piano. But once he started playing, it was clear that all this song really needed for the CD was his beautiful guitar playing. I think it adds a nice break from all the piano-driven songs. It keeps the song simple and lets you focus on the message of the song. HIDE

Coming Soon HIDE
I got this song while on a prayer retreat in 2002. It started and stayed for a while with just the "change my heart" part. I love that we serve a God who gives us a new heart (Jeremiah). The confession that we have loved sin is so strong. Call it what it is. I used to love sin, but hallelujah, the Lord is changing my heart. The third part of the song came a few months later when I read Ephesians 2:13. It made sense that it completes this song. I am only changed and made new by the powerful and precious blood of the Lamb. A close friend of mine once said, "The blood of Jesus may seem weak and meaningless to the world, but it is the most powerful force in the universe. For this reason: it is the only thing that reconciles a person to God." Although the song starts out as repentance, it ends in celebration of what Jesus, the Lamb of God, has done. Hallelujah! HIDE

LISTEN - 09 - Sydney Rain - EXPLANATION - LYRICS - CHORDS
Coming Soon HIDE
This song is a conversation I had with God after this experience:
I had the honor of participating in the birth of Sydney Rain Eiserloh. She is the daughter of two very good friends of mine, Robert and Katie. I was with them through the labor and most of the birth. At some point I got kicked out and then 30 minutes later there was new life. As I watched Katie's dad, Jim, throughout the labor, the Lord began to show me some things. Jim would sit by Katie's side and read scripture to her and sing over her. He would remind her how to breathe. I remember seeing them in the hallway as they took a walk. They had stopped and Katie was leaning on her daddy and he comforted her and encouraged her to keep walking, keep going. Jim was a beautiful picture of our Heavenly Father in those hours of waiting. As it became time for Katie to start pushing, I heard the Lord say so clearly, "It's these kinds of pains that bring forth new life (Sydney Rain)."
I don't know about you, but there have been times in my life when I was in so much pain and it didn't seem like there was a hint of relief. But it is in those times that God is teaching us to be His child. He is teaching us to be dependant. He is teaching us to persevere. He is preparing us for new wine, a new anointing, and a new authority. Sometimes we are so quick to take a pain killer or to find the easiest way out, but the reward is so beautiful if we learn to lean on and rest in Him. Sydney Rain is beautiful, and she brings joy to everyone she comes in contact with. Imagine what your new life will do to those you come in contact with.
Recording note: This was the other song that I played live and we decided to re-record completely. HIDE

I first heard Maxine read this vision at a ladies retreat. It was the first time she had read it in public. She made the comment that she would rather clean all of the toilets than share it with us J She had no idea that I was going to make her read it again and record it. I was so captured by the gift of description she has. I felt like I was there. What you hear on the CD is live that night. She didn't make one mistake, not one hesitation. Unbelievable. I couldn't even remember some of the words to my own songs and she flawlessly read this amazing vision. Bravo! HIDE

Well, I think it is pretty self-explanatory…I'm in love with Jesus and this is just a love song to him. Okay, maybe a little more than a love song, maybe a plea, a cry to Him to hurry J If the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder" is really true, my heart is enlarging everyday with fondness. Even though I am in His presence daily, there is still a longing for eternity with Him. Just imagine…if His presence here on earth is as great as it is, how amazing will His presence be when we can see Him?
Recording Note: I decided to record this one over again in the studio. Not because it was so bad live, actually it was really good, but completely different. For the CD I wanted to keep it as close to the way it was written, which was me, alone with the Lover of my soul. I wanted to share that intimacy with you. HIDE
